Scottish Power Gas and Electricity

Scottish Power Gas and Electricity are one of the leading energy providers, serving five million homes and businesses in the UK as well as in the Western United States. They generate electricity, provide a full range of energy supply services including metering, billing and call support centres and operate and maintain large power delivery networks. They also supply gas to customers in the UK and, in the United States, their activities include coal mining and gas storage/hub services.

The registered office of ScottishPower Energy Retail Ltd is:

1 Atlantic Quay,
Glasgow,
G2 8SP

Registered in Scotland No. 190287, Vat No. GB 659 3720 08
ScottishPower Energy Retail Ltd is regulated by OFGEM.

Scottish Power Gas and Electricity are closely involved with all the relevant parties concerning future developments for new sources of energy, and recently welcomed the news from the Crown Estate that new sites will be made available for the development of offshore wind power. As the EU and Government targets are to increase output from renewable resources in the future, this is indeed a very positive step. The Government has also stated that to encourage potential developers to commit to significant levels of investment for these projects, it is looking at removing detrimental regulations such as grid access and infrastructure issues.

In fact, Scottish Power Renewables received the Queen's Award for enterprise on Her Majesty's 80th birthday; a recognised leading UK business achievement. The honour was awarded in the Sustainable Development Category for the company's approach to wind farm development, particularly highlighting two projects, Beinn an Tuirc and Black Law Wind Farms. These wind farms were developed with the company working closely with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Scottish Natural Heritage, local councils and the landowners to ensure the creation of suitable habitats to encourage wildlife.

Not only are the company leading suppliers of gas and electricity, they are extremely keen on maintaining links with the local community and as such Scottish Power Learning was formed in 1996. Initially there were only 12 trainees but due to its success and huge expansion, more than 12,000 people have now benefited from its training programme. The training is also extended to its employees and the company has won several awards for their training programmes. Scottish Power Learning also work closely with the Prince's Trust and many young people have taken part in these courses resulting in personal development and improved confidence.

As well as supplying both gas and electricity, Scottish Power also offer their customers (both private and business) advice on managing their accounts, insulation and home heating, and existing customers also qualify for a discount on both cavity wall and loft insulation to try to reduce their heating bills, some people may even qualify for these services free of charge.
They are also able to supply low energy light bulbs and suggestions to improve customer's power usage. The company endeavours to offer as much assistance as possible to businesses offering business savings, solutions for house builders as well as a large business data service.

Lots of people pay for their gas and electricity monthly via a budget account where their consumption of energy is estimated for a year, and a direct debit is set up with their bank paying a monthly amount. At the year end, if in credit, the customer's monthly payments are usually reduced, similarly, if in debit, the monthly payments will increase. It is also possible to receive a quarterly bill for your gas and electricity but these have to be paid there and then. There is also the prepayment card for meters but this method of payment charges more per unit used and is not a very popular method of payment. Scottish Power Gas and Electricity's full terms and conditions are available on their website along with a very useful help section. Should you have a query that is not illustrated in the help section, it is very easy to get in touch with them via the "contact us" page of their website. For emergencies, all the necessary telephone numbers are listed in telephone directories.

Scottish Power Gas and Electricity are a very competitive and innovative company that also cares about the areas it serves, as in its continual research for renewable energy resources it maintains close links with the communities concerned to ensure that future developments are favourable to all.
